Bills aim to invest in Missourians and build safe communities

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — State Rep. Stephanie Hein, D-Springfield, filed multiple bills in Jefferson City ahead of the of the 2024 legislative session.
“In the past six months, I have had a chance to hear directly from my constituents, and this package of bills reflects many of their concerns on education, child care, gun safety, access to health care and so much more,” Hein said. “I look forward to getting this language to the governor’s desk to invest in the people of Missouri by providing resources that allow them to empower and protect themselves and the people they love.”
Hein filed five pieces of legislation in the prefiling period, which began Dec. 1. Those five bills are:
House Bill 1890, which will establish minimum teacher's salaries and provide grant money to certain schools districts to assist in their efforts to offer minimum salaries for their teachers.
HB 1891, which will authorize a tax credit up to $500 to individuals for the purchase of gun safety items, including firearm safes and gun locks.
HB 1892, which establishes a dyadic therapy pilot program within the Department of Mental Health with the purpose of improving mental health outcomes for children and their caregivers simultaneously.
HB 1893, which will rework Missouri’s child care reimbursement system to make reimbursement based on a child's enrollment status instead the child's actual attendance.
