“Today, nearly every House Republican effectively banned discussions on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives from state departments by legislating divisive culture wars into our budget. By banning DEI practices with vague, broad language, they have closed their eyes and ears to the reality that racism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of discrimination that still persist in our society as a direct result of historic oppression overwhelmingly carried out by a white majority.
“DEI initiatives foster environments of desegregation and ensure that people from diverse backgrounds feel welcome to contribute their ideas, insights and experiences. Today’s actions by House Republicans towards those practices make Missouri more hostile to traditionally marginalized communities and far too friendly to the creeping resurgence of the white supremacy historically prevalent in our state.”
