Black History Month Highlight: Rep. Stephanie Boykin

Representative Stephanie Boykin is currently in her first term serving St. Louis County (District 70) in the Missouri House of Representatives. She serves as the Ranking Minority Member of the House Committee on Veterans and Armed forces, as well as sitting on the Elementary and Secondary Education Committee and the Utilities Committee.

Boykin is native to the Walnut Park neighborhood of North St. Louis City and attended St. Louis Public Schools. Boykin went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University, -- an HBCU located in Jefferson City, -- followed by a master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Boykin is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served honorably for 40 years and retired as a lieutenant colonel in 2022. She is also a certified teacher who previously taught language arts in the Columbia and St. Louis school districts.

Boykin's public service includes gubernatorial appointments to the Citizen’s Advisory Committee on Corrections and work as a civil rights investigator for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Postal Service, and the City of St. Louis Civil Rights Enforcement Agency.

In addition to her duties at the Capitol, Boykin is active in her community. She is a member of the Hazelwood School District Family Coalition and the Hazelwood Cultural Enrichment Commission. Boykin also remains connected to her military roots as a member of VFW Post 2365, where she serves as post adjutant. She is also an active member of both The American Legion and American Veterans.
